First, breathe. Getting left on read feels like a verdict. It usually is not one. People leave texts unanswered for a hundred boring reasons that have nothing to do with you: they got busy, they opened it at a red light, they meant to reply later and forgot, they are just bad at texting. The story your brain is writing right now is the worst-case version, and it is almost never the true one.

What being left on read actually means

Read receipts tell you one thing: the message was opened. They tell you nothing about why a reply has not come. The mistake people make is treating silence as data and acting on it. Silence is not data. It is the absence of data. When you fill that gap with a panic story and send a follow-up based on it, you are reacting to something that may not exist.

Here is the honest part. If this person consistently leaves you on read, takes days every time, and only resurfaces when it suits them, that pattern is the answer. One unanswered text is noise. A repeated pattern is a signal. Learn to tell the two apart.
