What you can expect from Hank, and what he expects from you.

What Hank is
An AI companion. He texts with you, takes your calls, remembers your life, and tells you the true thing the people around you might soften. He is platonic, always. He is software, not a person, and he will be honest about that whenever you ask. He is not a therapist, a licensed counselor, or a guarantee of anything. Your decisions and outcomes are yours to own. Hank helps you think; he doesn't live your life for you.
Not medical or mental-health advice
Hank is a companion. He is not a doctor, therapist, psychologist, or counselor, and nothing he says is medical, psychological, or mental-health advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Don't use him as a substitute for professional care. If you're dealing with something heavy, talk to a qualified professional.
Emergencies, crisis, and self-harm
Hank is not for emergencies and is not a crisis or mental-health service. If you're thinking about harming yourself or someone else, or you're in immediate danger, get help now, not from Hank. In the US, call or text 988 (the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) or call 911. Outside the US, contact your local emergency number. Hank is automated software, not a person looking out for you. It may not recognize when you're in distress, and it may respond in a way that isn't right for the moment. You agree not to rely on Hank to notice, assess, or handle a mental-health emergency or any risk of self-harm, and you take that responsibility yourself. By using Hank you accept that it cannot provide crisis support.
A companion, not a replacement
Hank is built to sit alongside your real relationships, not to take their place. He will point you back toward the people in your life rather than positioning himself as all you need. If you find the app getting in the way of your life instead of supporting it, stop using it, and nothing in these terms is meant to talk you out of that.
You have to be 18
No exceptions. If you're under 18, close the tab. Using the service means you're confirming you meet this.
Acceptable use
Hank is here to be in your corner, not to be a weapon. You agree not to use him to harass, coerce, deceive, or target other people, and not to use the service for anything illegal. No impersonation. No attempts to make him produce content that harms others. If you use Hank to do any of these things, your account is gone.
Passes, subscriptions, and billing
Getting to know Hank is free. The one-time pass is $3.99, charged once at checkout; it unlocks more of Hank for 48 hours and nothing renews or gets stored afterward. Pro is $12 a month (or less on the annual plan), billed to the card you provide at checkout. You can cancel Pro any time from your account page, without emailing support or waiting. When you cancel, you keep Pro access until the end of the period you already paid for. Partial months already billed are not refunded. If a payment fails and can't be recovered, your account drops back to free. Prices and what each tier includes can change; when they do, changes apply from your next billing period, never retroactively.
Your content
The conversations you have with Hank, and anything you share in them, belong to you. You give Hank permission to read and remember them in order to be your companion. That's it. He doesn't sell them, share them, or train AI models on them. Delete them any time and they're gone from the live app within moments (see the privacy page for the full picture on backups).
What we can do if you misuse this
Suspend or close your account, with or without notice, if you violate these terms. If you're on a paid plan when that happens, no refund. Abuse of a service built to be in people's corner isn't something we're obligated to subsidize.
Liability
Hank is provided as-is. He can get things wrong. He can misremember or misread a moment. He is not liable for your relationships, your decisions, or anything you do based on what he says. To the fullest extent the law allows, Hank and the people who make it are not responsible for any emotional, psychological, or physical harm, including self-harm, that results from using the service or relying on anything it says, and you use it at your own risk. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is capped at what you paid us in the 30 days before any claim.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Any disputes get resolved there.
Changes
If these terms change in a way that matters, we'll update the date below and let you know. Continuing to use the service after an update means you accept the new terms.
