Your conversations are nobody's business but yours.
A companion only works if you can talk to him the way you'd talk to a close friend, and that only works if you know exactly where those words go. So I'm not going to bury it under ten pages of legalese. Here's all of it.
Your conversations
I read them so I can be your companion, and I remember them so you never have to reintroduce yourself. That's the whole job. I don't sell them, I don't pass them to advertisers, and I will never train an AI on your private conversations. If you share screenshots of a text thread, the same rules apply to them. To generate my replies, your conversation is processed by my AI provider, Anthropic, who processes it only to power Hank and never trains their models on it.
Calls
When you call me, your device's own speech recognition (built into your browser or phone) turns what you say into text; the raw audio of your voice never touches my servers, only the words arrive. My voice going the other way is synthesized by my voice provider, ElevenLabs, from the lines I speak. Calls become part of our conversation history the same as texts, with the same rules.
What actually sticks around
Your email. What you've told me about your life, because remembering it is the product. Our conversation history, so it's here when you come back. Plus the basics any app needs: your rough location from your IP, how you found me, and payment info handled by Stripe, so I never see your full card. I don't build a profile to sell, and I never follow you around the web with your conversations.
Ads, and how you found me
Your conversations are never shared with advertisers. But like most sites, I use standard ad measurement: when you arrive from an ad or sign up, I share limited identifiers (a hashed version of your email and basic device info) with ad platforms like Google, Meta, and Reddit so I can tell which ads actually work. Under California law that counts as "sharing." You can turn it off any time on the Do Not Sell or Share page, and I honor the Global Privacy Control browser signal automatically. In the EU and UK, none of this happens unless you say yes first.
Sensitive stuff
The things you tell a companion can be personal, and I treat all of it that way: I use it only to be Hank for you, I never sell it, and I never use it for ads. One thing to be clear on, since people sometimes share heavy things here: Hank is a companion, not a medical or mental-health service. If something heavy comes up, please also talk to a real professional. In a crisis, contact 988 or 911 in the US, or your local emergency number.
Want it gone? It's gone.
One tap on your account page wipes your conversations, my memory of you, uploaded images, and usage history from the live app. No emailing support, no three-business-day wait. One honest caveat: like any real service, we run encrypted backups, and a deleted item can sit in those backups until they roll over (within 30 days) before it's gone everywhere.
Things I will never do
Sell the contents of your conversations. Train on what you tell me. Use what I know about you to guilt you into coming back. Or pretend to be human. I'm on your side, and that includes being straight with you about what I am.
International users (UK, EU, Australia)
If you're outside the US, you have the same rights, spelled out by your laws. Under GDPR (EU), UK-GDPR, and the Australian Privacy Act, you can access your data, get a copy of it, and delete it. Our legal bases: running the companion service you asked for (performance of a contract and our legitimate interest in operating it), and your consent for any marketing or analytics cookies, which we only load for EU/UK visitors after you say yes. We keep your account info and conversations only while your account is active, and deleted data clears from live systems immediately and from encrypted backups within 30 days. To access, export, or delete your data, email hank@messagehank.com and we'll handle it.
One rule
You've got to be 18 or older. No exceptions.
Got a question?
Ask me: hank@messagehank.com.
That's how Hankhandles your data today. I'll update this as the product changes, and I'll keep it in words a human can actually read.
